The life of a trucker consists of long hours sitting behind the wheel, but that doesn’t mean it has to lead to poor health in the long run. You can find ways to incorporate exercise into your lifestyle even when on the road. Here are a few ideas to start getting exercise.
Bring Your Bike
One way to start getting more exercise is by bringing a bicycle so that you can take opportunities to ride it when you are stopped and have time to spare. You might be surprised to know that there are a lot of truck drivers who bring their bikes with them on the road. And it is common for several truck stops to be located nearby biking trails or other good riding spots. You can easily strap the bike to the back of your truck, or if you’re worried about theft then you can invest in a folding bike that you can store inside your truck. This goes for other exercise equipment like small dumbells or kettlebells and resistance bands for building muscle.
Take a Walk
An even more convenient way to exercise is to simply go for a walk or jog. After all, you don’t need anything more than yourself and a comfortable pair of shoes. Walking is a great way to stretch your legs and get your blood flowing after being seated for hours. If you can’t find a safe or easily accessible place to walk, then you can take some laps around your truck. In fact, about thirty-two laps is the distance of a mile. That way you don’t have to worry about getting off schedule and you can stay within the truck terminal or rest stop.
Go to the Gym
There are some truck stops and terminals that have started adding fitness centers and gyms to help support a healthy lifestyle for truck drivers. Make sure to look around where you’re stopped, and take advantage of it if you find one. But if you have no luck, you can also find gyms in some hotels and motels our you can get a nationwide membership to a gym that is open late so that you can go into town for a quick workout when you get the chance.
