Celebrate 50 years with Baltimore Freightliner!
Baltimore Freightliner-Western Star celebrated its 50th anniversary in April with ride and drives and a respectful nod to our long history and roots. Our company actually began in 1967 due to the work of the White Motor Co. They wanted to take care of the demands of Western logging customers in Kelowna, British Columbia. Western Star, which is currently headquartered in Portland, Oregon, is a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America.
The Celebration
Known for its Baltimore Trucks, our company held a truly stylish celebration to showcase our 50 years of accomplishments. During the event, news reporters got the opportunity to experience ride-and-drives of our vocational vehicles. These included dump trucks, cement mixers, and our on-highway trucks. We are mostly a vocational truck company and took the opportunity to showcase our very best.
Looking to the Future
Western Star has deep roots in Canada and offers vocational trucks around North America. We are always looking toward the future, even anticipating our next 50 year anniversary. The company continues to grow, and according to president Kelley Platt, Western Star was the only OEM that retail sold more trucks in the year 2016 than they did in 2015. While selling in both the United States and Canada, Western Star sells even more in Canada than in the United States.
A Gift Truck
During the event, Western Star gifted the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association a new 5700XE truck to use in its “Spirit of the American Trucker” tour. This is the third time that Western Star partnered with OOIDA for this event. This truck will be driven by Jon Osborn. Osborn is a recognized and decorated trucking industry veteran. He and the truck will visit a variety of locations, including conferences, shows, and truck stops throughout the United States. This will be done to promote independent truckers and the trucking industry.
