You may be anticipating the high traffic volume on Thanksgiving Day, but make sure to also be extra cautious on Thanksgiving Eve. It’s become progressively more popular to go out for drinks the night before Thanksgiving. This is why restaurants and bars have come to call Thanksgiving Eve “Black Wednesday”, since they make such large sales on this day. If you are driving on this day, keep in mind that there will be drivers on the road who have made the bad decision to drive home while intoxicated. Watch other drivers on the road and keep your distance if anyone doesn’t seem to have total control of their vehicle. Stay alert, and stay safe!
Keep Family in Mind
It can be discouraging to have to work on a family holiday. To keep from feeling lonely, plan ahead for family time. Try to organize a time to have a Thanksgiving dinner that works with your schedule, even if it’s a second dinner for them or if it’s just with your immediate family. Looking forward to this special time that’s set apart for you to spend time with your family will give you heart as you’re on the road. Also plan blocks of time to stop and make phone calls to family. This will give you something more immediate to look forward to while on the road and will help keep your spirits up during your travels.
