If you’re a truck driver, then you’re on the road all of the time. Now that summer is here, a big part of truck driving involves keeping your truck cool so that it doesn’t overheat on the road. This is what makes truck coolant such a valuable resource. It’s important to know everything about truck coolant, especially during summer. That’s why, today, we’ll be addressing questions that may pop up regarding truck coolant.
“How Do You Check Coolant?”
If you need to add more truck coolant, you should first turn your truck off and give it a minimum of 30 minutes to cool down. You don’t want to open the hood of your truck while the engine is still hot. To be extra cautious, we recommend unscrewing the cap of your truck coolant reservoir roughly halfway with the help of a rag. You should pause for a moment before you unscrew it entirely. If you unscrew the cap all at once, there’s a chance that the coolant could bubble up to the surface, which can potentially burn you.
Once the cap is opened, there should be a white tank that has either a yellow, red, orange, pink, or green fluid. On the side of the tank, you’ll see marks that indicate how much coolant fluid you should have. Only operate your truck when the coolant level is within appropriate parameters.
“Why Does My Truck Need Coolant?”
Coolant is a necessary fluid for your truck. It keeps the temperature of your engine at stable levels, allowing your vehicle to perform well, regardless of climate. A bit of a hidden bonus that it provides is actually resistance against corrosion. This anti-corrosion benefit is applicable to all sorts of metals (with the exception of steel and iron). Overall, it is beneficial for the condition and performance of your truck.
