Preventing Truck Tire Damage

To prevent truck tire damage, here’s what you’ll want to be doing.

If you’re a truck driver, you need to have functional truck tires. Your tires are the only thing that connects your truck to the road, and you need to have as strong a connection to the road as possible to ensure maximum safety for yourself and other drivers around you. Your tires, like other parts of your truck, are unfortunately susceptible to damage. Knowing how to prevent tire damage is crucial so you can continue driving safely. To prevent truck tire damage, here’s what you’ll want to be doing.

Maintain Optimal Tire Pressure

Tires need to be at the right pressure so they don’t get worn down as quickly. When tires are under-inflated, not only do they get worn down more quickly, but they might also get worn down unevenly. This results in your truck tires having shorter lifespans. Over-inflated tires are also a problem because they make it harder to control your vehicle. It will be harder to brake properly, and you could even have a tire blowout.

Rotate Your Truck Tires Regularly

Another way to prevent truck tire damage is to rotate your tires regularly. While it makes sense to think tires get worn down evenly, there are circumstances that cause uneven wear and tear on them.

As an example, front tires are more in charge of steering and braking, which causes additional wearing. Also, the weight distribution of your truck can impact which tires get worn down more quickly. By rotating tires regularly, you can prevent tire damage before it has a chance to impact any of your truck tires.

Try to Avoid Potholes

Potholes can easily cause tire damage to your truck because they cause your tires to receive extra impact upon hitting them. To minimize how much damage your truck tires get, you should try avoiding potholes when possible. If you have to run through a pothole, do so at a low speed. This reduces the impact that the pothole will have on your truck tires.
