How to Tell a Brake Repair is Needed

It’s important to know when a truck needs a brake repair, and that’s what we’ll be telling you today.

Truck drivers are constantly on the road. As such, their trucks always need to be in top shape for the sake of their safety. One of the most vital safety features a truck has is the brakes. They allow trucks to come to a stop and prevent serious collisions and injuries from happening. Over time, however, your truck’s brakes can start getting worn down. It’s important to know when a truck needs a brake repair, and that’s what we’ll be telling you today.

Watch for the Brake Light

An easy way to tell that a brake repair is necessary is when the brake light is on. You’ll either see a yellow, orange, or red light on the dashboard, and it should be pretty easy to notice. When the brake light is on, that’s when you know to get your brakes inspected. Oftentimes, a brake repair will also be necessary to ensure you have fully-functional brakes before you get back on the road.

Take Note of Steering Wheel Vibrations While You’re Driving

Another sign that a brake repair is needed is when your truck’s steering wheel starts to vibrate. A vibrating steering wheel often indicates that you have an uneven rotor. This problem will need to be resolved by a professional mechanic. That’s why you should find a trustworthy mechanic to inspect your brake system to be sure that this is truly the cause of your problem.

You Hear Squealing or Grinding Sounds as You Drive or Brake

Odd noises while you drive tend to mean that something’s wrong. In the case of faulty brakes, you might hear some squealing or grinding noises. Higher-pitched squealing can indicate that brake pads have to get replaced. This is probably the case if the squeals go away upon pressing the brakes.

For grinding sounds, there can be a couple of causes. Sometimes, your brake pads will have been worn out. Other times, it could be an obstruction that’s inside of your caliper unit. It’s best to let a mechanic look at your vehicle to determine what the appropriate fix will be for your situation.
